Just show up. Everything else will be waiting for you.

Let's meet on Colombia's vibrant Caribbean coast to celebrate the resilience of the African descendant people of San Basilio Palenque, the first freed town in the Americas, and revel in the world's second largest Carnival celebration! We'll explore Cartagena's colonial past and incredible architecture in the Walled City (where we'll call home), relax on a pristine beach accessible only by boat, and learn salsa. We'll chat with local community activists to learn about the status of Afro-Colombians in the region, then take short ride to Barranquilla to shake loose during Carnival.

The Curated Itinerary

Day 1: Get Acquainted with Cartagena

Arrive in Cartagena and get settled. By evening, meet your experience facilitators over dinner and learn about all that is in store for the week. End the night with locals at a local lounge.

Day 2: Explore the Walled City

Treat yourself to a walking tour of the Walled City, a centuries old fortress filled with picturesque winding cobblestone streets, markets, and the flavors of old Cartagena. We'll even see the places where our ancestors were once sold, and invoke their spirits through a libations ceremony.

Day 3: First Freed Town in the Americas

San Basilio de Palenque will be our oasis for the day, as it was for enslaved Africans that escaped to its refuge and preserved their culture and language which can be traced to present-day Congo. We'll get a short history lesson and tour of this UNESCO Heritage Site.

Day 4: Breathe In, Breathe Out

Enjoy a free morning, and then pause for lunch with a local activist and community organizer fighting for the rights of Black Colombians. Then let's put on our dancing shoes for a salsa class!

Day 5: Party in Barranquilla

Enjoy the short ride to Barranquilla where we'll shake our tails at the world's second largest Carnival celebration!

Day 6: Day at the Beach

After a day of partying, hop on a boat that will carry us to an exclusive island beach resort for relaxation and recuperation. We'll end the night with a farewell dinner among friends.

Day 7: Departure

Say goodbye to the majesty of Colombia's Caribbean coast. But not before stocking up on souvenirs and local spirits.
